Assignments 
The following assignments should be completed and submitted to the course faculty via the Moodle learning
platform for evaluation and grading. Not all questions can be answered by the text alone – some research
is expected. Submit responses to these questions in one Word document. List the question first and then
the response. Responses must adequately cover the question without being wordy or relying on “yes” or
“no” responses. 
1. How have science and technology influenced our views of health and ability/disability? How is
this view different from that of countries that emphasize alternative medicine? 
2. Should teachers be change agents? Explain. 
3. Can a teacher of a different race instruct a child as effectively as a teacher from the same race?
What about the other sources of cultural knowledge? Can females effectively teach males? Can
gays and lesbians teach fundamental Christian, heterosexual children? Can the blind teach those
who can see? 
4. What are some needs that would be similar and different among students who are immigrants,
refugees, minority group members, members of an Indigenous group, or short-term sojourners? 
5. Why are women are often referred to as a minority group when they constitute more than half of
the general population? 
6. Discuss aspects of the emotional informational, and development stages of the model of
intercultural interaction.
