Lesson Plan Focused on Social Media as A Tool in Your Classroom (elementary grade K)

  1. Select a social media tool or app that your students use. Examples might include SnapChat, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.
  2. Analyze the impact of this selected tool or app in the classroom.  How can it assist with teaching your students how to critically think?
  3. Brainstorm how you might use that tool or app to engage, enhance or extend learning in the classroom instead of disrupting the classroom. How could you use social media as an engaging way to help students acquire content in your classroom?
  4. Using the CSOE lesson plan template found on the CPRP, write a lesson plan that harnesses social media to deliver content or assist with classroom management in your classroom.
      • Write a lesson that introduces students to content and incorporates a social media tool or app to deepen learning.
      • You may also consider using social media to deliver classroom information, assist with classroom management, or keep parents informed of classroom activities.  In that case, write a lesson plan where students learn of the app, practice using it, and will share the information with parents.  For example, you could use apps like Remind 101 to send announcements or reminders about supplies or books, or Class Dojo to manage behavior and keep parents informed of student progress.
