Case Study: The Fiscal Impacts of Immigrants
With the change of Presidency came a huge shift in
immigration policy and overall thinking. According the Census Bureau in 2022,
the immigrant population in the U.S. grew close to a million after years of
very little growth. This increase has sky rocketed costs of healthcare,
incarceration, and education. The fiscal impacts of immigration on government
revenues and expenditures have been a hot topic among Americans. Immigrants
seem to be a large burden on government.
Write a literature review
of 3-4 pages (double-spaced) that outlines the scholarly literature related to
your topic. This would include peer-reviewed books and articles from your
annotated bibliography. It does not include news articles or government reports.
A literature review is more than a summary of articles. It is a synthesis
in that it shows how the sources you have read fit together to help answer the
research proposal. A literature review also shows the “gaps” in the
literature, or in other words, what questions have not been answered.
Here are three sources to review:
1.
Watts,
N. (2015). Health and Climate Change: Policy responses to protect public health.
The Lancet, Vol.386 (10006),
p.1861-191.
This review looks at the impact of climate change and
policy development reactions to the subject. The reason for this literature is
how public policy effects health of the world. Strong Academic Institutions
play such an important role in policy responses to protect health.
2.
Burstein,
P. (1998). Bringing the Public Back In: Should Sociologists Consider the Impact
of Public Opinion on Public Policy? Social
Forces,Vol.77 (1), p.27-62.
This review looks at the power citizens have over
government. The article says that this power is underutilized in determining
public policy. There is evidence that public opinion strongly influences public
policy.
3.
Dammert,
A. (2018). Effects of Public Policy on Child Labor: Current knowledge, gaps,
and implications for program design. World
Development, Vol.110, p.104-12.
This full review looks at child labor programs and how
households can be at risk. Decisions of the household about putting a child to
work are made because of income and if the house leaders think education
outweighs the benefits of work. Many policies can be used to address child labor,
but it is a serious subject.
