M5.4 Assignment: Comparative National Security Project – Effects of National Demographics, Economics, and Resources on National Security

In this assignment, you
will complete an approximately 3-page writing assignment (approximately 750
words, not including any cover or reference pages) on the country that you
selected previously. The readings and learning activities in this module introduced
you to the role of demography, economics, and resources in a nation’s national
security. Conduct additional research on your chosen country to address the
following questions.

In crafting your paper,
respond to the following:

Describe the demography
of the country you selected (for example, population density, ethnoreligious
composition of society, young versus old, men versus women). Is the population
growing, stable, or shrinking?

Discuss your country’s
labor force (for example, share of the labor force employed in agriculture,
industry, and the service sector; unemployment level; innovative capacity as
measured by patent volume or other innovation measures).

What are the resource
endowments of your chosen country? How does this country obtain natural
resources that it does not naturally possess?

Is the national economy
of your chosen country growing? How does it compare to other economies in its
region, other peer economies, and worldwide?

Based on the factors you
have described, discuss any relevant national security consequences of its
demography, national resource endowments/deficits, and other economic factors.
