Managing Therapeutic Approaches and Facilitating Therapeutic
Interventions within Mental Health Care: Summative Written
Assignment (Level 6):
What is it?
• A critically reflective essay written in the third person.
• You will base this on a service user scenario of your choice and
the care that was afforded to them. This might be a service user
you have met in practice. Your service user scenario will be
placed in your appendix to save your word count.
• You will be expected to systematically discuss and critically
evaluate the care that was afforded to this service user from a
biopsychosocial perspective and compare and contrast this
versus the evidence base.
• You will use the knowledge you acquire from this module and
your placement experiences to discuss and critique the facilitators and barriers to
effective communication, collaborative working approaches and therapeutic
interventions.
• You will be required to evaluate the key legal and ethical principles in the service
user’s care.
• You will need to demonstrate all five learning outcomes in order to be successful in
the assignment.
• As you are studying at Level 6, you will be required to be critical rather than
descriptive in your approach. You will be required to cite multiple sources of
reference. We will support you in developing these skills throughout the module.
How many words? 3000 words
Key considerations:
• Your service user scenario will need to be anonymised with no identifiable data (e.g.,
names, date of birth etc.)
• You will need to write up your service user scenario and place this in your appendix.
This will reserve your word count for the main reflective discussion piece to focus on
meeting your learning outcomes.
• Do not overcomplicate your service user scenario – keep it simple, you only have
3000 words.
