Maria Izquierdo, a proud Mexican artist who did art that is considered feminist.

I would like to talk about Maria Izquierdo, a proud Mexican artist who did art that is considered feminist. Izquierdo’s art was made through a feminist perspective and it was about the lives and struggles that women often faced, she also included meanings of pre-Hispanic motifs. Using her art, Izquierdo wanted to bring attention to Mexican women and the daily struggles they were facing. Her artworks were about the meaning of womanhood and femininity, she also wanted to break controversial gender ideas of women being below men. She also included a lot of her Mexican heritage and identity because she was proud of who she was.

In order to talk about Maria Izquierdo and her Feminist Mexican art I would have to research her artworks and what she mentioned about women. I would have to research what she believed as a woman, for example, women’s power, womanhood, and freedom. Also, I would have to look into how her life was and the reason she decided to make feminist art during her time since even today women still don’t have as much freedom as they should and sometimes we still get looked down. I also want to research about her techniques and material to find out if anything was related to Mexican women. Finally, I would like to do some research on the feminist movement in Mexico and how it differed from that in the U.S.

The paper’s conclusion should summarize
connections among the three works explored, though you may want to make some comparisons
to work by a similar artist. The introduction and conclusion should be a minimum of half a page
each.
The body of the paper will synthesize the identity concerns explored by the artist and engage
in the visual analysis of three works of art. This
has two parts: 1) lively description, also called formal analysis or analysis of the forms
presented in the composition; and 2) interpretation, where you discuss the meaning of the
work and, in this paper, how the work relates to the questions of identity posed by the artist.
Each section of the paper should relate back to the thesis statement.

Will likely want to begin your research with an investigation into the chosen artist’s
biography. This may help with the understanding of the issues of identity explored in their
4
work. When writing about the artist’s biography, however, try to keep this to one
page, maximum. Instead, use biographical details in tandem
with the artist’s work to discuss identity.
You must include images for every work of art that you discuss in your paper, even if you
mention a work by another artist as a point of comparison. You should number them Figure 1,
Figure 2, Figure 3, etc. in your text and images should go at the end of your paper in the order
that they appear in the text. You should create an image list that includes identifying
information for each work. The image list should include the following: artist’s full name, title of
work (in italics), date, medium (oil on canvas, etc.), dimensions in inches, and owning institution. It
is best if your images are in color, but black and white is fine if no color image is available.
Do at least one
footnote/endnote from each source. No more than five online-only sources (museum or artist websites; remember that
digitized articles that are print primary or online books do not count toward this limit)
• scholarly articles that might be useful for the project
• Exhibition catalogs from museums or galleries
• books on your artist, their communities, ethnicities, historical events, etc.
• newspaper articles on specific events, artists, or exhibitions
