Master final project proposal on How have socio-economic and cultural trends influenced the surge in Mandarin language learning among Americans in the 21st century?

I need to write this integrated research essay for my final master project. In this project, we are expected to discover something new. And I want you to mainly focus on the literature review connecting to my research essay. 

Here is my research question: 

How have socio-economic and cultural trends influenced the surge in Mandarin language learning among Americans in the 21st century?

Potential sub-questions:

What are the primary motivations for learning Mandarin in the United States?

  • What are students’ and parents’ learning expectations in Mandarin classes?

  • How can students get access to Mandarin classes?

  • How has the appreciation of Chinese culture led to the increasing demands of learning Mandarin?

  • How did TikTok become one of the factors of learning Mandarin?

    • My method is going to be narrative inquiry. And I will be interviewing two people for my data. One of the person will be my chinese adult student (White America) and another person will be my chinese high school student (2nd grade, original from Thailand).
