Methods Of Systematic Review on physical health promotion programs in adressing obesity with those living with intellectaul disabilities

Plan the methods section of a systematic review that investigates the effectiveness of physical health promotion programs to address obesity in those living with intellectual disabilities. 

Please include : Introduction/aim, study design, including sampling, sample size, recruitment, data collection instrument and data collection methods.


Please arrange the sections of the assignment with the following sections:

1. Introduction and aim of the study: The research aims to investigate the effectiveness of physical health promotion programs in addressing obesity in those living with intellectual disabilities. 

2. Study design and justification: The study design is a systemic review. It is the most appropriate as we are trying to investigate what is and isn’t effective in addressing obesity with physical activity in order to make recommendations for health promotion programs.


3. Screening and obtaining relevant documents, Inclusion/exclusion criteria (for literature review) :  please include the following for the inclusion-exclusion criteria:

Population: people living with intellectual disabilities who are obese, (BMI over 30), aged between 6-65 (please include a reference here to justify the ages are between child and adult), the studies can be from worlwide

Intervention: programs examing physical activity, any form of physical activity it can be group-based, individual, on telehealth 

Outcome: studies should have measured level of obesity, either from weight, BMI, or weight circumference; secondary outcomes can include changes in physical activity levels

Study desgin: 

  • Types of Studies: Include randomized controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-experimental studies, and longitudinal cohort studies, peer reviewed
  • Time Frame: Consider both short-term and long-term studies.
  • Language: Include studies published in English e).
  • Publication Date: Include studies published within a specific timeframe (e.g., the last 10 years) to ensure relevance and recency. 2014-2024
  • Studies can be completed in any context ie: community, school, aged care, residential homes.
  • Exclusion criteria: based on the above information, please write the exclusion criteria 
  • 4. How will the data be extracted from the literature (for literature review)
  • the screening process, please include a general overview of the method of how data is extracted for systemic reviews (use of: prisma flow diagram, covidence, endnote, data extraction table) please reference this article in parts of this section DOI:  10.1016/j.eururo.2017.08.016 
  • Re-aim frame work will be used to evaluate the data
