This paper is an opportunity for you to explore a material of your choice from a critical perspective/s. This paper examines the arguments presented in the text from your perspective. The goal is two-fold: one, identify and explain the argument that the author is making, and two, provide your own argument about that argument. Do not fall for summarizing the essay; examine it from critical angles by utilizing tools .
Your critical analysis will be based on one of the reading materials listed below or used in class. You can argue for or against or find a middle ground. Write from a text that is interesting to you and that invites critical thinking. In your paragraphs, pay attention to coherence, depth, fullness, and support as you write. Your thesis must be clearly spelled out for your reader and your arguments should follow a logical structure, with statements supported by examples. Keep your focus on the main topic and avoid any digressions that might distract you.
Use your analytical, reflective, and critical skills. Your essay will be evaluated on the basis of how you explore the issues in the text, critical thinking, insight, consistency, logical structure of arguments, evidence for your claim, grammar, punctuation, and how well you follow the prompt. Make sure your in-text citations and Works Cited correspond to each other.
