Research Proposal Outline (20%)
Each student will submit a 4-page double-spaced outline of their proposed research. The outline’s topic should be on a health, health service, clinical or public health issue that is of interest to you. Ideally (but not necessarily) you will use the Research Question you started to develop. Include some discussion of the potential challenges you expect to encounter and how you plan on dealing with them. The grading rubric can be found below.
Your research question paper will include:
Title page (APA format)
Four-page paper where you will describe your research question, the significance of the study, the study design used to evaluate, the participants and variables of the study, any ethical issues, statistical analysis, and potential challenges of the research study.
Reference Page(s)
Cite relevant published reports, best practice guidelines for health professionals and peer-reviewed articles to support your viewpoints (minimum of 3 credible websites/other sources and 5 current {< 5 years} peer-reviewed articles). Please cite references according to APA format.
Research Question – Clearly state your research question. Describe the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome criteria.
Significance and Rationale of the Study – Describe the significance/rationale of your study. Focus on the previous literature and what contributions have already been made. Describe where the gaps in the research are. Describe how your study will contribute to the research field.
Study Design – Describe the type of study design you will use. Briefly summarize why you chose this type of study design for your research question.
Participants – Describe the types of participants you will recruit to take part in your study. Identify and describe the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Provide a description of the strategy that you will use to recruit your study participants.
Variables - Identify and describe your intervention/exposure variable and comparison variable and how they will be measured. Describe your primary outcome(s) and how they will be measured. Describe your secondary outcome(s) and how they will be
measured
Ethical Issues – Describe any potential ethical issues you might experience in your research study. Identify the potential risks and benefits of participation for your participants. Define the relevant ethical principles associated with your research question. Describe how research ethics board approval would occur.
Statistical Analysis – Describe the hypothesis/prediction that you have made regarding the outcome of your study. Provide a description of the type of analytic approach that you will take to evaluate your research question. Describe the type(s) of statistical tests that you would use.
Potential Challenges – Describe any potential issues and/or challenges that your proposed research study might encounter throughout the research process.
