You will prepare and deliver an extemporaneous 6:00
minute speech outline that engages a counter-factual problem-solution speech regarding one
of the failures of the international community to “never again” allow a
genocide to occur in Rwanda.
Directions for
Preparing Your Speech:
1.
Choose your topic – choose a one of the failures
of the international community to stop or limit the genocide in Rwanda. There
were a number of failures, so consider it from a variety of perspectives.
2.
Research – you are expected to have at least five
source citations and a works cited page to be turned in with your outline. For this assignment, vetted web sites such as
nyt.com are accepted sources, but reference materials such as dictionaries and
encyclopedias are not. Further, at least two of your sources must come from academic
sources. Don’t forget the readings that we’ve used in class as well when doing
your research.
3 . This is an extemporaneous speech and will be
delivered from note cards. You will not
be allowed any other notes (e.g. notebook paper). You note cards must be numbered and written
on one side only. I recommend you attach
them together, but this is not a requirement.
4.
You introduction must include an attention
getter, a statement of significance, and a roadmap. It should be about 1:00 in length.
5.
The body of the speech must include two main
areas with subpoints that act as supporting material. It should be about 4:15 in length.
6.
The conclusion must summarize the main points
from the speech and provide closure. It
should be about :45 in length.
I HAVE ATTACHED 2 OF THE 5 SOURCES TO BE USED, PLEASE USE AN INSTANCE PROVIDED FROM THEM
Organize your speech into two main areas. This should be done as a counter-factual
problem-solution. This means that your speech should be delivered as if it were
in 1994 and the first area should be the problem and the second area should be
the solution. Be sure that the solution directly answers the problem you
identified.
