The purpose of this assignment is to raise your awareness and give you some insights into your own values/beliefs/thoughts/ideas/opinions/possible unconscious biases about various aspects of your own health and wellness and how these may influence your nursing care for individuals, families and communities. It is also an opportunity to exercise your reflective thinking and writing skills in a brief written submission in the BSN program using APA style.
Please write 250-300 words describing how you currently view/understand at least 4 of the following concepts (you can include all if you like as long as you are within the word limit) health, illness, disease, wellness, healing, family and community. Include your own personal, working definitions of your chosen concepts and any questions or aspects of these that are challenging for you.
For example; I consider my family to include all living things that give me solace and comfort. Therefore, the old growth trees on my property, which I often go and simply sit under to nourish my soul, are also my ‘family’. However, my concept of family does not ‘jibe’ with textbook definitions, which challenges the validity of my beliefs about family.
You do not need to cite any sources, these are your own reflective thoughts. Please use first person, i.e. “I think/believe that…” and citations are not required. However, if you do cite any sources, then a separate References page, as per APA format, is required.
