Language development and literacy skills are interdependent. Entering school with poor oral language skills can cause students to struggle socially, academically, and behaviorally. It is important for ECSE professionals to be familiar with speech and language development to intervene as soon as a delay is detected and to provide resources so families can support speech and language development at home.
Create a 15-20 slide digital presentation about speech and language development in children in K-Grade 3 (ages 5-8) that could be shared with new K-Grade 3 teachers. Include the following in your presentation:

- A minimum of 2-3 warning signs that there may be a delay in language development and initial steps teachers should take if atypical language development is noticed.

- Identify 3-5 atypical patterns of speech/language and/or literacy development that indicate signs of dyslexia in children in K-Grade 3.
- Three research-based instructional strategies to enhance the speech and language acquisition of children in K-Grade 3 that could be implemented in inclusive classrooms.
