Scenario: Integrating Services for a Senior Patient
Imagine a senior patient, Mrs. Anderson, who needs comprehensive healthcare services due to her age-related health concerns. Mrs. Anderson is experiencing physical health issues, such as diabetes and hypertension, requiring ongoing medical management (ambulatory care). Additionally, she is struggling with symptoms of depression and anxiety (behavioral health needs). As her health deteriorates, she is also considering long-term care options. Be cognizant of corruption and abuse in some of these nursing and long-term care homes as reported over the years.
Considering the scenario provided, write a four- to five-page paper in standard APA format with at least three peer-reviewed sources. In your paper, address the following questions and concerns:
What services are provided in ambulatory care to effectively manage and monitor Mrs. Anderson’s physical health and age-related conditions?
What role does technology play in providing Mrs. Anderson with access to ambulatory care services, and how can it help her maintain her independence and quality of life?
What potential long-term care options would you recommend to Mrs. Anderson, such as assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and home-based care? What factors should she consider when choosing long-term care?
How can behavioral health services be integrated into Mrs. Anderson’s overall care plan to address her symptoms of depression and anxiety? What collaborative efforts are needed between ambulatory care, long-term care, and behavioral health providers?
Compare the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health issues with seeking help for physical health conditions and discuss how this might affect Mrs. Anderson’s willingness to engage in behavioral health services.
