Purpose:
This assignment
has two main purposes; 1) for
you to learn about parenting programs and policies and how these can influence
parent and children
and 2) practice your APA style skills.

 

Introduction:

Describing programs that support parents and
families and reporting the findings is a task that is often requested from
practitioners at schools & non-profits.

 

Scenario: 

Imagine
you are a family advocate at a non-profit. Your supervisor asks you to review
parenting programs or policy that impacts children and their families. You will
describe and synthesize the research on one parenting program or policy. Your
audience for this report is your supervisor and the advisory board for your
organization.

 

Prompt: Write a 5-space

Description of the parenting theories
that frame the program you choose and why you think this theory is used; if
none are describe in your review of the literature; based on we have learned in
our class about theories which, do you think frame the program?  Why?

Diverse parents: How
the program meets the needs of diverse parents (e.g., is it offered in
other languages; any adaptations for different cultures?). What
adaptations/changes (provide at least two suggestions) do you think are needed?
Why? What are some of the challenges diverse parents might encountered when
trying access this program? What changes would you make to the program more
accessible and benefit to families?
