Personal Philosophy of Leadership Option
(5-6 pages double-spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman).
One’s personal ethical leadership actions can have an impact not only on the work setting, but also on one’s personal life. Each of us as individuals have some choices as to the type of ethical leader we seek to become. The following written assignment is designed to allow you to self-reflect on what you’d like your own model of ethical leadership to be. Your written response should address the questions listed below. Write a personal model of ethical leadership philosophy using the following bullets as headings in your paper:
- What are your personal beliefs about the purpose and goals of ethical leadership?
- What are your personal beliefs about the roles and responsibilities of ethical leaders?
- What are your personal beliefs about the qualities, characteristics, and traits of an effective, ethical leader?
- What do you consider to be the core values and/or behaviors of an ethical leader?
- Would others describe you as an “ethical leader?” Why or why not?
- Provide an example of someone who you consider to be an ethical leader. What makes this person so?
- Describe a time when your ethics were put to the test. How did you respond? What lessons might you take from this experiences in terms of developing your progress as an ethical leader?
Basic Guidelines for Paper Assignments
Submission Method: Papers will be submitted via Canvas as a Word document or pdf file.
Do not include any identifying content in the documents (i.e., there’s no need for name, course, section, date, etc.).
Length: 5-6 pages (this excludes any title or reference pages or excessive spacing between paragraphs).
Paper Due Date: See content above for specific due dates. Late papers will be penalized 10 points per day late. No late papers accepted for partial grading after 04/30/22.
Grading Criteria: Papers will be assessed on content as well as quality of writing. Please adhere to the requirements. For those of you who may feel that your writing skills are a bit “rusty,” please have someone else whose skills are greater proofread your paper for errors prior to submission or seek assistance at the ISU Writing and Media Center (https://www.wmc.dso.iastate.edu/).
Headings: Carefully consider the hierarchy of the ideas you wish to present, and use headings to convey the sequence and levels of importance. Headings help a reader grasp the manuscript’s outline and the relative importance of the parts of the paper.
Font: Use only Times New Roman 12-point font (which is what you’re reading). Additionally, avoid excessive spacing in your paper as your transition from paragraph to paragraph or section to section.
Margins: Set margins to 1 inch at the top, bottom, right, and left of every page. Do not justify the right margin. If you do not know what “justify” means, just look at any one of the paragraphs on this sheet. The left margin is justified and the right margin is not. Indent each paragraph with a five- to seven-space indent.
References: Just as information in the paper supports interpretations and conclusions, so reference citations document statements made about the literature. The reference list is at the end of the paper and includes only the sources that were used in the paper and preparation of the paper. For instance, if you use material about a particular organization obtained from their website, you would need to cite and reference that. Cite references according to APA writing style. Note: Because of the nature of these particular assignments, it is possible/likely that you may not have any references to cite in your paper.
Sexist Language: Avoid sexist language (e.g., mankind, manpower, mothering) and stereotypic bias in your writing and speech (e.g., referring to managers only as men). Examples include such statements as: “The worker’s behavior was typically female,” “The manager is usually the best judge of the value of his [use his or her] mentorship,” and “Professors often neglect their wives [use spouses] and kids.” Don’t assume or imply in your writing or speech that all managers/leaders/supervisors are male.
NOTE* – I will make a note, this is a personal paper, so no resources or references are required. I don’t think you should need any at all, again it is a personal paper about the questions asked.
