Crime, Wealth & Poverty
Written Assignment #2
This semester we closely scrutinize the concept of justice and how it relates to
difference in Canadian society. We have explored various theories of crime and
explanations and underlying reasons for criminal behaviour. Zemiology is a relatively
new concept in criminology that broadens the narrow conception of crime, to behaviour
that encompasses various types of harm, even those not criminalized by governing
authorities.
Key Reference:
Davis, H., & White, H. (2023). For a Zemiology of Politics. Journal of White Collar and
Corporate Crime, 4(2), 88-99. https://doi.org/10.1177/2631309X221123759
Your task is to craft a persuasive essay on how zemiology may influence current or
future criminal justice policies and practices in Canada. This assignment is designed to
be open-ended, allowing you flexibility in your pursuit of this broadening criminological
perspective. Find an area within zemiology that most intrigues you, or that you find
particularly relevant in current discussions on justice and diversity.
Your essay should be about 5 pages long, double-spaced, and should cite in APA
format at minimum, your textbooks and 6 peer-reviewed journal articles outside of class
readings.
