LEARNING OUTCOMES: persuasion is the most commonly and widely used communication types. We are surrounded by persuasive acts every moment of our lives.
- You want a new cell phone? You need to persuade your parents why they should give you one.
- You want your friends to go out with you for a concert in Atlanta? You need to convince them why it’s a good idea to spend the weekend there.
- You want to be the president of your student organization? You need to convince your peers that you are the best choice.
- You want that ‘best employee’ award at your workplace? You need to persuade your customers to purchase your services/products.
This assignment prepares you to (1) understand and apply the basic principles of persuasion to build effective and compelling persuasive arguments, (2) understand and apply statistical data to build persuasive arguments, (3) differentiate between informative and persuasive speeches, (4) understand and differentiate between emotion and logic/arguments and apply the later in persuasive speech.
