Emerging A.I. technology stands poised to change society as we know it with its implementation causing major changes to everything from education to healthcare to law enforcement and so on. The technology has been called everything from a harbinger of doom to the key to laying the foundation for a utopian society. Where do you stand? Do you believe A.I.’s dangers outweigh its benefits? How might we implement this technology in such a way as to avoid its potential dangers? Explain your position in a 3 page essay. Make reference to at least 2 outside sources and cite your sources using proper MLA format.
Expectations: Your essay will consist of the following elements: an original title, an introduction that defines and provides context for your topic, a clear thesis statement (this should state how you think A.I. will affect society going forward and whether or not said effects will be positive or negative), body paragraphs that analyze specific facets of this issue to support your thesis, a conclusion paragraph to sum up your thoughts on the subject matter.
Advice: Look at how A.I. might affect different aspects of society (i.e. education, law enforcement, healthcare, content creation, military, etc.). You don’t have to talk about all of these areas. You might choose a few that pique your interest and discuss those in detail. While you might talk about both benefits and drawbacks of A.I. technology, try to land on one side or the other as far as whether you think A.I. will have an OVERALL positive or negative effect on our lives.
