The paper is a persuasive essay of 8-10 double-spaced pages on an article or book chapter of your choice that is on the syllabus. You must defend or refute the author’s argument (not both) using examples of art from any medium.
The introduction should have exactly four sentences: an introductory sentence; an identification of the author and article/chapter sentence; a thesis statement which identifies the author’s argument in one sentence and your position on it (agreeing or disagreeing) and a subtopic sentence with 3 subtopics that will prove your thesis. You must take a position on the author’s argument and prove it through the 3 subtopics. Agree or disagree but do not do both.
The body of the paper should devote about 2 to 2.5 pages per subtopic, divided into paragraphs.
The conclusion should be no longer than 1/3 of a page.
Do not just summarize, describe or explain the author’s argument. Provide your own examples, facts, analogies etc. not the author’s.
Essays that are exclusively expository, historical, comparison and contrast, biographical or anything other than persuasive will not be accepted.
You could use up to 3 bibliographic sources beyond your chosen article/chapter. You do not have to use any sources beyond the series.
