This Research project should include:
- Introduction: In no more than 1 page in length. Situate your topic or problem of practice in the workplace. How does this topic current present? What is your experience with the topic? What intrigued you to research this particular topic? Then, provide a purpose statement or thesis that gives direction and alignment to your essay.
- Literature Review: 2-3 pages in length. I want to know that you’ve surveyed the scholarly literature about your topic. What has already been written? I would assume that you would consult several (10+) articles to get a good sense of the scholarly conversation surrounding your topic. Summary and identify salient points within the literature. What’s been said? What’s missing?
- Results: 1-2 pages in length. What were the emerging themes? Do those themes differ from the actual practice of police work? Is there distance between the literature and “real life”?
- Discussion: 1-2 pages in length. What’s missing? Do you feel that the topic or problem of practice you selected was adequately represented? In your opinion, given the information retrieved in the literature search and review, does a policy need to change? More training implemented? Etc. What are your recommendations and implications of your research?
- Conclusion: 1-2 paragraphs in length. Summary your work. Navigate back through your paper and provide your reader with some parting thoughts from each section.
Essay Guidelines:
- The essay must be more than 5 pages but less than 10 pages.
- The essay must be typed (Times New Roman Font Face; 12px Font Size; 1-inch Page Margins), double spaced, and saved as a .doc or docx.
- The essay file name must observe the following format: lastname_finalessay (i.e. miller_finalessay.docx)
- The essay must contain each of the three components described in the previous section.
