Introduction:
In your Initial Project Description, you shared an initial research question( My research questions is Postpartum Depression and how Women have been Neglected for Years because of the Stigma that Women are just Emotional).
Now, it’s time to look into what research is out there for you to work with. Once you’ve read widely, you’ll formally propose your Researched Project (a.k.a. the Research Proposal part of the assignment) and how you plan to go about your primary research.
What It Should Look Like: (LINK IS ATTACHED TO SHOW YOU HOW THIS PAPER SHOULD LOOK LIKE)
This assignment has two parts:
The first part is your Annotated Bibliography. Here, you want to read extensively and share the most important secondary sources for your project. It should include the following sections—in fact, feel free to use the following as headings:
- Annotated Bibliography: Cite and annotate the five most important secondary sources for your project. Citations should be in MLA formatting. Each citation should be followed by an annotation, or short summary. Annotations should be around 75-100 words, and should 1) describe the research methods, 2) describe the purpose or findings in the source, and 3) explain why this source is important to your project and how you intend to use said source.
- Additional Reading: Cite five other sources readers should read if interested in this topic. These do not need to be annotated.
- As for formatting, your Annotated Bibliography should be single-spaced and use Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1” margins.
- (NOTE THAT ON THIS ORDER, I DID NOT SPECIFY THE NUMBER OF SOURCES WHILE SETTING IT UP ON ESSAY PRO, THAT IS BECAUSE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, IT’S CLEAR HOW MANY SOURCES YOU NEED TO USE!)
The second part is your Research Proposal. Here, you’ll revise your research question (from project one) once more. Remember, it needs to add something new or original to the scholarly conversation that you are entering. Once you reach the conclusion of this paper, it shouldn’t be just a re-telling of the sources you have collected, but should add something new to the space. Your primary research that you propose conducting will help you with this task. You will also propose a plan involving primary research to answer your research question. It should include the following sections. (LINK IS ATTACHED TO SHOW YOU HOW THIS PAPER SHOULD LOOK LIKE)
Again, feel free to use the following as headings:
- Research Question: State your revised research question.
- Research Methods: Describe the primary research methods you will use to answer your research questions. In your research methods, make sure to include any combination of three of the following: 1) analysis of first-hand writing you will collect (a.k.a. artifacts), 2) interview, 3) observation-participation, and 4) survey. For example, you might do three interviews. You might analyze an artifact and conduct two observations. Alternatively, you might analyze one artifact and do two interviews. (Note: Engaging in primary research with family and relatives is strongly discouraged.) Also, describe in as much detail as possible who will participate in your research and how you will invite them to participate.
- Significance: In your Initial Project Description, you shared why this project is significant to you. Now that you know more about the scholarly conversation, I’d like you to share why your project is significant to that scholarly conversation. That is, how does your project offer something new and original to the topic?
As for formatting, your Research Proposal should be double-spaced, be .5 – 1 page, and use Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1” margins
