The task is to prepare a written work with headings ( the
personal pronouns can be used with the exception of the academic section) that
critically demonstrates my interest in pursuing a career in the TOURISM sector.
The work should address the following:
- Long-term career goal in the TOURISM sector.
- Short-term career goals for the next two years.
- Skills, experience, and qualifications needed to achieve career goals.
- Strategies for acquiring necessary skills and experience.
- Potential barriers to achieving career goals and plans to overcome them.
- Timeline for achieving career goals using the Gantt Chart.
- Relevant professional development opportunities, such as courses or certifications, to pursue.
Ensure the career plan is:
- Realistic, specific, and measurable (SMART);
- That it applies to a student that is currently in second year of university studying Business and Tourism Management;
- All the work must be
based on reliable research and have a minimum of 10 different sources within
it that are not written earlier than 2021. Please ensure you

Critically analyze the literature on employability and enterprise in the
tourism sector and evaluate the current job market for your chosen career for this assignment.
This paragraph needs to expose the negative and positive of the job market. It should also contain theories and frameworks such as Kolb’s experiential learning or Maslow’s pyramid of needs.
2. Self-assessment: 500
Words
Start by evaluating strengths, weaknesses, values, and interests.
This will help you identify the areas you need to focus on to achieve your
career goals and the elements that you want to include in your CV. Identify the
obstacles that you want to overcome.
In this section, the job market needs to be researched for the role of hotel manager; how many jobs will be available for a graduate in 1-2 years, please use statistics ( use Statista) or/and government websites from UK.
You can also talk about the huge skill gap in hotel management ( this gap can be found on government website).Also speak about changes after Brexit, Covid-19, government, economy and competition.
Regarding the strenghts: please write about having experience in the customer service from a prior job as a customer service advisor for a international company, leadership, communication and customer relationship management,cross-cultural competence and industry knowledge as (i have studied tourism in college).
Regarding the weaknesses: confidence, limited networking skills, risk -aversion and what other would a student studying in second year of university that is not native english has.

Research the tourism industry to learn about the skills, qualifications, and
experience required to succeed as a hotel manager. Identify the trends and changes happening in the
industry ( for example how the hotel management is now more digitalized) and determine how you can adapt to stay ahead. Please ensure that
you use both direct and indirect citations.

Create an Action Plan: 500 Words
Create an action plan once you have identified your career goals and
skills. Prioritize, make comparisons, and consider the factors to make a
choice. Write down the steps to achieve them. This plan should include
specific steps you need to take, such as networking, training, education, etc
(Start with self-assessment, set goals – long-term and
short-term, Identify and list out Skill and knowledge gaps, develop strategies,
and then create an action plan.)

Implement your Plan: 500 Words
Identify long-term and short-term career goals that you need to achieve
them. Act on your plan and start working towards your goals. Set timelines to keep track of SMART Goals. Include
the Gantt Chart. This may involve acquiring new skills, exploring job
opportunities, reviewing your resume, and expanding your professional network.,
etc.
Some tips to be more personal ( for networking), talk about creating a linkedin; attending the conferences or networking events happening in the uk in cities like london, birmingham; or even getting an internship after the graduation( which happens in 2025). This information must be realistic so these conference and events must exist!
You can also include attending the Food and Drink Expo which happens at NEC,Birmingham this year as a step towards working on the networking skills.
