Purpose: To present your original idea on a selected topic in a clear, organized way in order to convince your readers that they should accept your conclusions on the topic.
Real life application: convincing a hiring committee to select you, persuading a bank to loan you money, getting a professor to grant an extension on an essay
Requirements: Three pages. Papers not meeting this minimum length will earn a zero as an incomplete assignment. It cannot be made up.
Topic Selection: Present a plan of your future to the reader. Where will you be in ten years? What do you want to have accomplished? Why is this your goal?
Do not just list a bunch of items you want to own–this is just wishing. Feature one or two important goals and explain how you might achieve them. Why are these goals important to you? What is your backup plan if you don’t reach these goals?
For motivation, think of trying to get a university to accept you into a program, a cooperation to hire you for internship, a bank to loan you start-up money or just a parent/friend to accept your life decisions. Show you have thought about the decision and know what you are talking about.
Review the links on examples–make sure you add both specific and typical to help the reader understand your goals and why they are important. Since this assignment is a self-analysis one, you can use first person.
