Problem statements, Healthcare workers in the US are facing increasing workplace violence, jeopardizing their safety, patient care, and the overall efficacy of healthcare systems.

SPCH 210 Problem-Solution Presentation Guidelines
Directions: Your final group presentation will be an individual presentation, with the goal being that the
audience accept your group’s proposed policy change. Just as has been the case with the previous Information
Panel presentation, this final presentation will be delivered using the extemporaneous (outline) mode of
delivery. The time limit for the overall presentation will again be 4-6 minutes.
This speech is to be research-based; you must include a minimum of three research sources that will be
cited during the presentation. Of these three sources, no more than one should come from the Internet.
Also, with a few exceptions, encyclopedias and dictionaries are not considered to be acceptable as research
sources.
Please follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide when creating your reference list;
your reference list should be submitted as a Word document that accompanies your YouTube link which are
both emailed to me.
Your group will also need to create a contract that indicates who will be responsible for the various parts of the
presentation, i.e, Introduction, discussion of the Problem, Grid, etc. This contract should be included in your
group’s home page so that all members have access to it.
As a group, use the following outline to structure your overall presentation:
Group Presentation Outline:
Introduction: (This is the information your group discussed (or would have discussed) in Con I and II)
· Gain the audience’s attention and interest using one or a combination of the devices you have learned
from your communications classes.
· Establish the “Need” (This is the discrepancy between “what is” the current situation and “what should
be” the current situation
· Provide appropriate evidence of the need through expert quotes, statistics, historical data, examples, etc.
· Define relevant terms as needed
· State your group’s Problem Statement; this is where you hopefully narrowed the focus both by topic and
geography
Body: (This is the information your group discussed (or would have discussed) in Con III )
· Discuss the process the group used to select the proposed plan(s). This will entail a discussion of the
“Grid.”
· Present the “Plan(s)” (This is the solution(s) to the problem which will address and/or resolve the
identified need)
· Refute the opposition, if any. Here you acknowledge any obvious opposing arguments and then identify
the flaws of the opposing viewpoints
· Cite the benefits of the plan(s) including, but not limited to, how the proposed “Plan(s)” will reduce the
“Need”
· Cite any fringe benefits to the plan(s); these are additional positive benefits that may result should the
proposed plan(s) be adopted

Conclusion:
· Briefly summarize the group’s Need, Plan(s), and Benefit(s) (but not the refutation)
· Close with an appropriate wrap-up using one or a combination of the devices discussed in class. (This is
where you tell your audience what you just told them)
