Description:
Select a real business in the food chain or restaurant industry in the United States. Identify issues regarding managing data at that given business and its impact to the business. Provide a planning document for viable database solution to resolve issues at given business.
Following is the template for Project Scope document:
Executive Summary (Summary level paragraph about the business you choose about business problems or opportunities being addressed in this project, and what approach you will take towards resolving the problems or achieving the business opportunities through viable database solution)
Business case (Business background, Data & Management issues, Business impact, Database solution, Benefit to business using Database Solution)
Project Objectives (Products or Services to be obtained as a result of project. The project goal should have SMART characteristics (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Result-based, Time Bound. Project objective should be concise and clear with no more than 2 lines)
Scope Statement
a. Project scope – Total work to be done to achieve project objectives (High level activities to be done in project to achieve its objective, such as activities in each phase of Database Development Life Cycle)
b. Product scope – Features of the product to produce as the result of the project, i.e., features of the database systems to be created.
Assumptions and Constraints: (An assumptions are anything you think to be true but there is no guarantee, and constraints are known limitations project team and project work. Assumptions and constraints can be anything; they might be related to human resources, budget, technology, time or any kind of functionally.)
Major Deliverable, due dates, and acceptance criteria (List major deliverable(output) to be produced at the end of each phase of Database Development Life Cycle, due date of each deliverable, and acceptance criteria (set of conditions/verification required to be met for the acceptance of each deliverable))
Additional explanation on the instructions
a) Project objective should incorporate SMART goal characteristics. It should have some measurable outcome and timeline.
b) Project scope should include what activities will you do in order to develop relational database system, i.e. activities in each phase of SDLC.
c) Project scope should state features of the product. In this project, the product that you will produce is Relational Database Management system. So, you should provide details on feature of RDBMS, such as it will be OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) database, Centralized with Sharable and Securable data, Database will have auditing features, and business continuity with defined backup and recovery strategies etc..
d) Deliverables should be what result will you produce at the end of each phase of Database Development Life Cycles.
