Here is the layout & format and things that you should look for in the article and include in the essay:
Introduction with Thesis
● Sample thesis: “The author accomplishes (their) goal of persuading us of __(their thesis)___ by using ___(describe what you found in terms of appeals, sentence length, and stance).”___
● Analysis of the context (multiple paragraphs)
● Audience
● Purpose
● Genre
● Analysis of the content (multiple paragraphs)
● Appeals (either ethos, pathos, or logos)
● Sentence length
● Look at the standard length of the sentences, look at any outliers, and make a guess as to why the author chose the length they did and why they chose the sentence length they did.
● Stance
● What is the author’s apparent attitude, belief, or opinion on the topic they’re writing about, and how do you know?
● Conclusion
Your paper should be about 1000-1200 words in length and should include in-text citations where you paraphrase or quote directly from the article and a Works Cited or Reference page at the end of the paper.
