We learned this week that there is an interaction between forensic psychology and law, policy, and practice. Criminal and civil justice law, policy, and practice significantly impacts forensic mental health, while research and advocacy within the field of forensic psychology informs law, policy, and practice.

Instructions

For this week’s assignment, you will examine this interaction as it applies to the specific crime type that you have chosen to focus on in this course  (HUMAN TRAFFICING). To complete this assignment, locate 3 scholarly articles that identify:

• The risk factors for becoming involved in the crime type you selected,
• The rehabilitation needs that individuals who commit these crimes may possess, and
• The effectiveness of current justice system laws, policies, and/or practices in reducing recidivism.

As you review the articles you select, reflect on the following questions:

1.   To what extent do the risk factors align with the theory you chose in your week 1 assignment? For example, if you selected strain theory in your week 1 assignment, do the risk factors include poverty, unemployment, or limited education?

2.   To what extent do the rehabilitation needs align with the theory you chose in your week 1 assignment? For example, if you selected control theory in your week 1 assignment, do the rehabilitation needs include improving social bonds?

3.   To what extent do the current justice system laws, policies, and/or practices align with the theory you selected in your week 1 assignment? For example, if you selected social learning theory, do the laws, policies, or practices address association with antisocial peers?

4.   To what extent are current justice system laws, policies and/or practices aligned with the research? Do these laws, policies, and/or practices address key risk factors? Do these laws, policies, and/or practices address rehabilitation needs? How effective are these laws, policies, and/or practices in reducing recidivism?

5.   What changes in law, policy, and/or practice might you recommend given your response to the above questions?

You will use your reflections and responses to the above questions to complete the table provided in the resources for lesson 2 to complete this assignment.
