This assignment requires you to describe how the PMHNP program has helped you meet the NONPF criteria. When writing this assignment, make sure you are identifying what activities helped you meet the criteria. What did you do to learn? What courses, clinical activities, assignments, etc. helped you learn? I have seen students provide a description of the criteria without describing how they met them. I have also seen students write how they will use the criteria in practice. Both of these are not appropriate. Please don’t do that, because you won’t be meeting the requirements of the assignment. This assignment is going to require you to take some time and reflect on the work you have done during the program. I am including two examples below – one is an example of an adequate response and the other is inadequate. The inadequate example describes what the competency is and why it is important, but is vague on how the program led to achievement. Writing something like, “The assignments in my classes gave me knowledge about scientific foundations” is too vague. What assignments? Pretend an employer is asking you what you did and you’re trying to clarify how you learned these competencies. The adequate example details the courses and assignments that led to achieving the competency. Use the adequate example as a guide.
Inadequate example:
The scientific foundation emphasizes data analysis and an evidence-based approach to
integrate analysis, research theory, and nursing science. This competence uses qualitative and quantitative approach through research to improve quality practice in the healthcare industry. All nurse practitioners must adhere to scientific research and translate their findings to a positive outcome while providing care. Through my PMHNP program, I can now translate theoretical research into practical.
Adequate example:
The Scientific Foundations competency was encountered with course NURS 6052N
Essentials of Evidence Based Practice during which I cultivated databases and applied the knowledge of research methodologies to evaluate literature (Walden University, 2023). Through reading assignments, I examined theoretical framework, concepts and approaches proven to be supported by nursing research. I completed assignments showing that I could use the database to research those topics and use critical thinking to write and come to conclusions based on evidence. With each discussion and assignment throughout my coursework I used evidence-based literature to support my work. The Scientific Foundations competency was encountered with course
NURS 6501 Advanced Pathophysiology fixated on understanding the biophysiological
processes, the aberrations from these developments, and a comprehensive investigation of the scientific concepts correlated to the biology of disease processes (Walden University, 2023).
