Successfully critique the key themes and concepts that underpin community health in practice, such as social capital, cohesion, participation, resilience and empowerment, within given scenarios.
Make judgements by critically analysing and evaluating the impact of social mobility on mental health and wellbeing.
Appraise the appropriateness and efficacy of skills and approaches used by practitioners working within the community to target the needs of specific communities, supporting and enhancing their mental health and wellbeing
Communicate information and ideas from a balanced and ethically sensitive position, using real world skills and appropriate methods to convey these ideas
STRUCTURE
Introduction
· Introduce the topic of PTSD/ Eating disorders or schizophrenia.
· If you have a specific focus (e.g. children) say what it is, or go general with a wider definition of what your Common Mental Disorder is and who it affects.
· The scope is about how wide your focus is (e.g. will international or local perspectives be examined?).
· Purpose of your project is concerned with researching what works, how do we know? What are the issues relating to recovery in community practice?
Overview of P.T.S.D OR Schizophrenia OR Eating Disorder.
Give more detailed information about the symptoms/ diagnostic process, who is affected etc.
Overview and appraisal of community practice for the target group.
What interventions are most widely used or advocated for? Using evidence (referenced reading) evaluate how good they are. For example, what are the strengths and limitations, or conditions that make them more effective?
Critical Discussion
In your critical discussion you will use examples from your research, or case study scenarios relevant to the client group to explain how social mobility (fluctuations in social economic status) plays a part in the decline or improvement of public mental health in the community. You will expand your discussion of the community practice that you have identified and recommended in the previous section, by applying the concepts listed below:
Cohesion For example, Peer support builds this, which then builds participation
Participation
Resilience how communities can become more resilient when empowered to participate
Empowerment
You may want to use definitions of these terms to make your discussion more theoretical. Then apply these terms. For example you could illustrate the challenges of stigma, or language barriers, etc that need to be overcome for an intervention to be effective. Also illustrations of good practice may be seen to challenge these wider societal issues beyond just helping an individual to recover.
Conclusion
Summarise the main points, this may include which strategies, approaches and skills are most important in leading best practice in the community. You may also identify critical issues which are problematic in the real world.
Recommendations
These may be handled together or separately from your conclusion, in accordance with what works best for your project. These recommendations will relate to the critical issues raised in your critical discussion.
