SEMINAR: Society and Government Guidance
The objectives for this seminar are to:
• Identify the factors that can contribute to “good governance” in the contemporary context;
• Analyse the relationship between interests, levers of power and systems of government and what a government should/can do for its people;
• Examine the concept of “well-being” and how it can be applied in different international, national and societal contexts.
• Examine ethnicity, culture and religion as markers of identity, political affiliation and behaviour;
• Evaluate the place of human group factors in the maintenance of stability, security, prosperity and values;
• Examine the concepts of populism, nationalism and nativism and examples of them in contemporary domestic politics;
• Evaluate the options open to states in meeting the challenges posed by identity politics and populism.
