During this portion of your rotation with your preceptor you will be focusing on quality improvement in the healthcare system, organizational culture, socialization to the role of a professional nurse, and personal and professional development. When working with your preceptor in providing and organizing care to your patients/clients, review the questions below and reflect on your performance, answering the following questions in your journal:
Identify the organizational structures and/or personnel at your facility’s organization that participate in quality-improvement activities.
What are the models they use for quality improvement?
What are the quality improvement priorities for the organization and patient population?

Identify and describe your facilities organizational culture and its impact on care delivery.
All work environments have unwritten rules and expectations. A new nurse may feel isolated if he/she doesn’t know them and may experience failure for not recognizing the need to gradually be acclimated to the work setting. Reflecting on your overall preceptorship experience and looking forward, what kinds of questions could you ask to find out these unwritten rules and expectations?
Socialization is best facilitated when the new nurse feels a part of the group. Based on your experience during your preceptorship and your past clinical courses, reflect on and describe what you believe are the differences in being a licensed, accountable nurse versus a student nurse.
What are your future personal, educational, and professional goals as a nurse? List a minimum of three goals and briefly design a plan on how you will reach these goals and continue your skill development and monitor your performance.
Discuss which steps would you take if you believe your professional development needs are not being met/adequately addressed by an organization you hope to work for?
