Three Things to Do:
First: Read:
-
TTC Part 2 “El Tenkesgeevee” Chapters 1-4
-
Do not read beyond Part 2, chapter 4 for this assignment
-
As you read, focus on the character that you analyzed and discussed in Essay 2.
-
Before you begin Part 2 Chapters 1-4, read Essay 3 so that you can plan your reading, discussion, and research.
Second: Prepare for this week’s Discussion:
Look over these resources available to you for this Canvas Discussion assignment:
-
View the PowerPoints below (they are a big help!):
-
See and download these pointers regarding each character. They will be a big help you to develop your discussion and essay activities. See the links below:
Third: The Discussion:
Enter the assigned discussion by writing your first discussion post (worth 30 of the 50 points available):
Format your discussion post in this way:
-
The first word of your first posting in the discussion should be the character’s name (the character you will be discussing).
-
It should be: Delaney or Kyra or Candido or America.
-
That tells other students and me which character you will be analyzing in your first post.
-
-
Then go on to post your interpretation and thoughts about this character you have chosen.
- Identify, describe, and explain a character’s changes in behavior, psychology (emotion, mood, thinking) and the meaning and significance of these changes.
- Identify, describe, and explain a character’s changes in behavior, psychology (emotion, mood, thinking) and the meaning and significance of these changes.
-
After your first post, reply to posts made by other students (required: two of them at 10 points each of the 50 points available):
-
Look for other students posts which have also selected “your” character.
-
Read those posts.
-
Reply to the one you find interesting and want to make a contribution to.
-
You can expand and develop the interpretation in the post or you can debate and argue against that interpretation.
-
Don’t just say, “I agree” or “I disagree” Develop your reasons why.
-
Important:
-
If no one has selected your character, reply to a post made by the other character in your pair. For example, if you are writing about Kyra, and no one else is posting about Kyra, then post about her husband, Delaney, in a way that develops Kyra.
-
Similarly, if no one is posting about America, reply post to those who are posting about Candido in a way that develops America’s characteristics.
- Important: Frequently use quotations from The Tortilla Curtain as well as examples from your personal experience and your education to illustrate and validate your thoughts about the character you are analyzing.
