Reflection on a Personal Experience of Caring for Someone: Applying Johns’ Model of Structured Reflection

Utilizing Johns’ model of structured reflection, students will explore a personal experience of caring for someone. A brief rationale of the importance of reflection in nursing practice is to be provided.  Students will identify areas of learning that have occurred for them in completing this assignment. Relevant literature is to be utilized to show your thinking about the experience. Questions that you 

have arising from this exploration or in relation to the literature should be included in the summary of the paper.

Content Guide and Evaluation criteria:

• Introduction with a clear statement of the purpose of the paper  
• Clear presentation of experience to be analyzed
• Application of Johns’ model of structured reflection to your experience
• Rationale provided for importance of reflection in nursing practice.
• Identification of your learning.
• Relevant literature from peer-reviewed nursing journals is cited and referenced (at least six sources in addition to Johns is required – as relevant to issues in the experience under review, caring, nursing, ways of knowing, critique of John’s framework, etc.)
• Identify a question or two that you have about reflection, ways of knowing and/or being a nurse that arise for you in thinking through this assignment.
• APA scholarly format
