This research paper combines three papers that we have been working on throughout the semester. Make sure it flows well, and that all areas are included.

Professors Feedback:
Lit Review
The role of religious beliefs and congregations shared values and beliefs is clearly established in your paper. The significant list you present of the beliefs and biases (distrust, expensiveness, stigma, etc.) towards the mental health community are powerful and can be entrenched in the communities identity. The author of the article linked below has been a proponent of embracing spiritually sensitive social work practice that I thought you might find interesting: I realize your focus is on Latino/Hispanic communities, an article from a Muslim perspective on Islamic psychotherapy: https://psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?doi=10.1037%2Fscp0000219 Your content on autonomy is interesting a very relevant to the focus of your paper. For “academics” and “academic writers” consider using the word “researchers.” Academics are not always researchers so the expression could be a little confusing. I was struggling a bit to follow the through line that ties the various concepts being discussed together. I think if we could talk it will help to see to focus the paper. Let me know if that works for you. Problem Statment feedback: Excellent work. You provided a clear and succinct description of the phenomenon of interest, the role spiritual healing plays in the Hispanic community and the influential role spirituality plays in Hispanic mental health care. Introducing stigmatizing beliefs about mental illness complicates efforts to educate and engage the community in treatment. Including the church in educating congregations in an effort to destigmatize mental illness may be an effective addition to other community-based efforts. Your choice of a phenomenological approach could be a very effective way to understand the help-seeking behaviors of Hispanics. The research question needs to be developed. You may need to think first about who your participants will be. Are they people who have come to the church for spiritual help to address what may be a psychiatric disorder? Is your interest in the general population of church goers? Will participants also include people using mental health services? Your question can be brief and direct. For example, “could you tell me about your thoughts, feelings, and ideas about mental illness?” Another could be, “please tell what the best source for help with emotional pain or poor mental health is and why? Methodology Feedback: A strength that those who use an interpretative phenomenological method is that the researchers prior knowledge of the phenomenon being studied. This means your experiences that may similar to those of the people you speak with or knowledge you have about the phenomenon is viewed as an important consideration in the interview process and analysis of data. Would any of the participants have concerns that participating in the study might impact their standing in the church? Since the focus is on mental health and some participants may see a potential risk to their standing in the church by sharing their views of church leaders and other congregants. Your statements about the integrity of the data and putting safeguards in place can go a long way towards calming concerns. You also mention the transcendental knowledge which will be part of establishing theme. This will speak to the spiritual experiences of the participants
