Attachment in Infancy and its Effects on Development
This is a bond that is made with the child and the mother or the present parent at the time of development. Is form with what we call skin to skin contact after the mother has given birth. In time it develops to a bond in which a child seeks the primary caregiver with attention, when its hungry or needs some emotional time with the caregiver. It helps the child build a bond that later the child carries on as he or she grows. Build relations in school or with future partners. When the bond is made it helps the child build more self-identity and better choices in life. But also, it can have negative actions. When there is no bond, it can cause development problems in school or even in life. A baby when it born its connected with the caregiver and knows in time, she is the one that can provide the needs it is wanting, food, sleep or just a hug. Eye contact is important especially in the early months of life. As the child gets bigger and grow, they feel safe with the caregiver present. It builds a healthy relationship. It makes them feel that they can explore and not fear because they are near. When they don’t have that closeness, they can develop what we call anxiety separation, especially when they go to day care. As they get older, they also develop close relationship with other people in their life like the father and the main people like grandparents for support when dad or mom are not present. These kinds of relationships build their personality stronger. But it can go the other way too if that connection is not there as well. The way a parent connects with their child from the beginning until they themselves are adults make an impact on them and their future. (https://health.clevelandclinic.org/, 2022) (MSEd, 2023)
