  1. Research an native or indigenous group in a town, city, or area of your choice. This could be your hometown, or anywhere in the world. Find out as much as you can about the people who are native or indigenous to that place by:
    1. First, do an internet search and find out as much as you can, including alternate spellings of their name (and in their language if relevant), geographic connections, language info, basic history and current status. 
    2. Once you have a name of a group, check Cal Poly Kennedy Library (go to your portal, click on the Library tab and then type your term into the OneSearch box and see what comes up. Try alternate spellings if necessary.
    3. Check the Gale Encyclopedia of Multicultural America if it is a Native American group and read the article about that group if there is one (LinkLinks to an external site. through Cal Poly Kennedy Lib).
    4. NOTE: Keep track of the best source you find and include a description of that along with the URL (or Permalink if library resource) with your submission.
  2. Contextualize and connect with U.S. history and HIST 206:
    1. Think about what you have learned in HIST 206 so far. What historical context can you put this indigenous group and their history into? What course materials can you connect to?
    2. What social or cultural context regarding U.S. history and “American cultures” can you place them in? (i.e. not strictly history but cultural or social topics)
    3. Can you connect this to Takaki’s concept of the Master Narrative of American History?
    4. What does learning more about the people indigenous to a place tell you? What is significant about this group in understanding U.S. history? 
    5. What did you find most personally significant or interesting?
  3. Write a post (min. 400 words, proofread, in your own words, in complete sentences, in paragraphs (not just one block of text), based on what you learned in the activity, responding to the prompt below.
  4. Respond to at least TWO classmates’ posts. Your response comments should make substantive comments and draw at least TWO connections (min. 50 words each comment post). Remember the principles of Netiquette!
