Research on developing, or future health technology or public health issue/topic

The final research paper is to be an evidence-based discussion on a current, developing, or future health technology or public health issue/topic, with a defined target population, and provide ethical analysis and recommendation on this technology/public health issue (i.e., stem cell research, public health ordinances, and universal health care). Your paper will include the following elements:

• Overview of the public health issue (overview of your topic, rationale for topics (reasons you chose the topic), explain why the issue is a health issue, introduction of key terms)
• Morality of the issue, explain using ethical theory if this technology or public health issue is justified. Address the applicable ethics theories; and emphasize the principles of healthcare ethics of; nonmaleficence, Beneficence, autonomy and justice.
• Background information on the health problem that requires the technology or public health intervention (current facts and statistics, trends over time, who is affected or at risk). Include the severity and cause health problem and interventions (what is cur rently being done to address the issue, what health agencies or groups are involved and what are their key functions)
• Target population (the “who” that is targeted with this technology or public health issue … make sure to address culture, group norms, individual values, social pressures, etc.)
• Your Recommendations and conclusion (suggestions for addressing the problem, moral justification, alternative). Ethical rationale for the moral stand on the issue.
• Remember, your papers should include an introduction and conclusion!

Your paper should be 6-8 pages, not including title page and references. It is to be completed in APA style and format and must include at least 3 peer-reviewed articles from peer-reviewed journals to support your thesis. The thesis statement must be highly developed and the rest of the paper should address the thesis. You will be graded on the ability to use examples that support the thesis statement.

Average Mastery
The paper has a recognizable introduction and conclusion, but the introduction may not create a strong sense of anticipation or the conclusion may not tie the paper into a coherent whole. There is a thesis statement but it is ambiguous or unfocused. Sources generally support the author’s point but more or a greater variety need to be cited. Quotations, paraphrases, and summaries generally work but occasionally interfere with the flow of the writing, seem, irrelevant or are incorrectly cited. Use of the proper format (APA) but there are occasional errors. Sequencing shows some logic, but it is not under complete control and may be so unpredictable that the reader finds it distracting. There are problems with grammar or usage, punctuation but they are not serious enough to distort meaning. Voice and style don’t quite fit with a research paper. Paragraphs occasionally lack focus or coherence.

There is no real lead-in to set up what follows and no real conclusions to wrap things up. There is no clear thesis. Connections between ideas are often confusing or missing. Quotations, paraphrases and summaries tend to break the flow of the piece, don’t seem to fit or are not cited. Frequent errors in format (APA) or incorrect format used. Sequencing seems illogical, disjointed or forced. There are frequent spelling, voice and style errors that distract and interfere with the meaning. Voice and style are not appropriate for a research paper. Paragraphs generally lack focus or coherence.
