Body Paragraph (will have multiple) – The body of your paper should logically and fully develop and support your thesis and each paragraph should focus on one main idea that supports your thesis. For this assignment, you should have four body paragraphs.
A. A topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph. This is a mini-thesis statement for the paragraph. Think of it as a sign-post for your readers – something that alerts them to the most important points in your essay. It should relate to the thesis statement as well as defining the scope of the paragraph itself.
1. Context for textual evidence to prepare the reader for a quote – introduce the context of the source and the expertise of the author
2. Quote/Textual Evidence – specific example used to provide evidence for your topic sentence and thesis statement (be sure to only use snippets of textual evidence embedded into your own grammatically correct sentence)
3. Commentary – explain how this textual evidence supports your topic sentence
4. Clincher/So What? – last sentence of the body paragraph which ties the textual evidence and commentary back to your thesis statement
