Research Proposal: The beginning of the United Nations in the Aftermath of World War II

Please write a research Proposol using the below guidlines(this is for my final grade). See the attached docs for a breakdown of what my professor wants. Be sure to use 7 pirmary souces and 13 secondary soures . He’s really picky about primary sources so be sure to find good ones that meet the requeiment of a primary source for historical papers. Come up with 3-5 research questions that would be a great read. Adjust the thesis and arugment if you need too.

Topic: The beginning of the United Nations in the Aftermath of World War II

Thesis Statment:  After the dust of World War II settled, the birth of the United Nations stood as a beacon of hope for a world craving unity and peace. My thesis dives into the early days of the U.N., showing how it didn’t just happen by chance but was a thoughtful response to the League of Nations’ letdowns. Through a closer look at the U.N. Charter and the stories behind its birth, I’ll show you how the architects of the U.N. were determined not to repeat history’s mistakes. They were keen on building something stronger, with real power to bring nations together and prevent the kind of collapse that doomed the League.

Arugment: The League of Nations had lofty goals but fell short, big time. Missing key players like the United States and lacking the muscle to enforce its decisions, it couldn’t stop the world from spiraling into another devastating war. Enter the United Nations, a phoenix rising with wider support from around the globe, including all the major powers of the era. It was crafted with the lessons of the past in mind, featuring solid structures like the Security Council, ready to step in with real action to keep the peace or get it back on track. The U.N. Charter wasn’t just another document; it was a clear signal that economic and social ties mattered just as much as military strength in maintaining peace. This was a game-changer, addressing head-on the League’s narrow focus that missed the broader picture of what it takes to build a lasting peace. When leaders from 50 countries gathered in 1945 to sign the United Nations Charter, that moment captured in the famous San Francisco Conference photo was more than historical. It was the world, once torn apart, coming together with a shared dream of a better, more peaceful future. That photo isn’t just for history books; it’s a powerful reminder of why the U.N. was created and why its mission is still so vital today.
