Research Report- The Impact of Social Media Algorithms and Group Composition on Political Intolerance.

Assignment Task The assignment is divided into two parts. You are required to complete both parts for this assessment. Part One: Mini Report For part one of the assessment, you will be required to write a mini report on the following topic: The Impact of Social Media Algorithms and Group Composition on Political Intolerance. The role of social media algorithms in shaping political intolerance has become an important concern. You are leading a research project conducting a study to investigate the effect of two social media algorithm types on political intolerance. The first algorithm type is the filter- bubble algorithm, which displays only social media content that is congruent with existing views. The second algorithm type is the mixed views algorithm which displays social media that is balanced and shows diverse political views. In addition, you are interested to investigate whether the group composition (homogeneous views groups, versus mixed views groups) also impacts upon political intolerance. Participants were asked to declare whether they held more liberal or more conservative views. Participants were then randomized such that half of the participants were assigned to the filter-bubble algorithm , and half were assigned to the mixed views algorithm . In addition, half of the participants in each algorithm condition were assigned to the homogenous views group, and half were assigned to the mixed views group. Participants were given access to a closed group on social media and asked to engage with the group for one hour per day over the course of a week. After the week was complete, participants completed the Political Intolerance Scale (Dunwood, 2016) and political intolerance was compared between groups. Your task is to develop one or more hypotheses for the study described above and then conduct an appropriate statistical analysis in Jamovi to determine the effect of the algorithm type and group composition. The data have been provided for you on iLearn. Finally, you will write a report to communicate the results of the study to an academic audience. The report should be in APA format and further guidance on the structure of report is provided below. (Max words 2000)Part Two: Evaluative Discussion and Additional Analysis Following your first study, your research group decided to conduct a follow-up study to investigate the relationship between political intolerance and some other variables. You want to investigate whether there is a relationship between political intolerance, self-reported hours spent on social media platforms each week, and perceived social support, as measured by the Perceived Social Support Measure (Chen & Popiel, 2015). Your task is to summarise the design of the follow-up study, compare it to the design used in part one, explain how they differ, and consider their strengths and weaknesses. Using the Jamovi output provided to you, you should identify the type of statistical test that has been used to analyse the data, noting that this will be different to the statistical test you have conducted for part one. You should then develop one or more hypotheses for the follow-up study. You should explain why this statistical test was the most appropriate choice, i.e., explain why this type of analysis is most suitable for the data that have been collected and provided to you. Finally, using the Jamovi output provided, you will need to interpret the results of the follow-up study and produce a write- up of the findings in APA format (max 2000 words)
