Revision Only. Sources 2022 and newer only. Problem Statement:This section must clearly identify the problem. Include the phrase “The problem is…” to allow the reader to distinguish the issue driving the study. The problem must be supported with citations. A researchable problem is not simply a gap in the literature or a lack of information; a research problem is a documented existing social issue for which there is not a known solution or an effective solution. This section is typically brief at less than one page in length. Purpose Statement This section should concisely explain the focus of your study. Begin this section with the method and design you have selected and provide a clear statement of the research objectives of your study. Provide a brief description of the means through which the goals of your study will be achieved and the geographic location of the study. When conducting a case study, which requires multiple sources of data, ensure that those sources are identified. This section is typically brief at less than one page in length. Population and Sample section: begin with the population (your study population), target population, sampling technique, and sample size. Be sure to start from broad to narrow (that is, your study population, target population, sampling technique, and sample size). You also need to define concepts and support each of your choices of population, sampling technique, and sample size with scholarly literature. That is, define population or general population and then describe your population or general population (either one is fine). Next, define target population. After defining the target population, describe your target population. This is where you could have any discussion about eligibility criteria. In other words, who will qualify to participate in this study. If your description of target population is detailed, you do not need to mention eligibility criteria, but if you choose to discuss eligibility, this is where it should be placed. Once you complete the discussion about target population, move on to the discussion about the proposed sampling technique or method. Again, define the selected or the proposed sampling technique. If you use purposeful sampling, please define it and then explain why the selected sampling technique, purposeful in this case, is most appropriate for your study. Finally, have a discussion about the sample size. Let’s say that you propose to recruit 20 participants. Then, you need to use scholarly literature to show what you have read about sample size that helped you determine the appropriate sample size for your study. For qualitative studies, it is a good idea to also include a discussion about data saturation after the discussion about the proposed sample size.Lastly The 1. Methodology (Proposed Method and Design). Please focus on the discussion about methodologies first and then you will move on to the discussion about the design.
