For this assignment, we were asked to write a 4 page, at least 1250 word rhetorical analysis over a topic of our choice. I decided to use the prompt “book trailers.” Specifically, I would like to use both student made book trailers as used in the classroom as assignments, and professionally made book trailers from authors and their publishing teams.
Rhetorical Analysis Essay on Book Trailers (In classroom and as author-made advertisements)
I have used this site before, but never for an English class- especially a 300 English class. Therefore, I am worried about this paper not sounding like my work. *I have attached a previous paper for you to get an idea of my writing style, so that you can hopefully mimic this.* I love writing, but I am WAY in left field about this assignment.
– I have attcahed a brief “draft” of an introduction, as my teacher says that I have not yet covered rhetorical analysis. I would like for you to incorporate this so it seems more like my work.
– I have also attached some sources recommended to me by my teacher, as well as the prompt. The sources are:
****FOR THE RHETORICAL ANALYSIS PORTION: please use this source that was recommended by my teacher to develop the analysis (along with others)! :https://era.library.ualberta.ca/items/8068d59b-e076-4cc4-9bfa-6e1af303e966/view/75fb863b-8bf7-4239-a564-8da13602cd46/Basaraba.pdf
**** HERE are some guidelines given by my teachjer for my specific prompt: “You need to pick a couple of trailers that you can compare (I’d suggest on the same book or two) done by professionals and by students.
If you’re focusing on a genre analysis of the difference between these, then you need to draw on the theory you already have access to/ done for you. If I remember correctly, we found a thesis that had been done about the rhetorical devices or genre features of book trailers. Is that correct? Did it focus just on the professional ones or compare the professional and student types?
Use the features/ strategies that it described for them as your theoretical set up and then analyze the new ones you found to see how they compare—do they overlap with those strategies/ genre features? Are they different?
Look for some book trailer pairs to compare on the same book—professional and student. And look up the thesis that analyzed book trailers rhetorically to see what theory it offers you to use.”
I am always available for more information! I appreciate you!
