Background:
There are 17 different organizations that make up the U.S.
Intelligence Community (IC). Within these agencies, each collects, analyze and
process information to produce intelligence to protect against threats.
Homeland Security is focused on dealing with threats and
attacks within the US borders. Homeland Defense is focused on dealing with
threats and attacks outside the US borders.
It is important to understand the difference between
Homeland Security and Homeland Defense and the roles the IC community plays to
support.
