1. Run DMC and the Beastie Boys both represent a hybridization (or cross-pollination). What do these groups have in common and how are they different? (Compare and contrast). Give examples of Rap hybrids from the 1990’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s and discuss the musical elements being combined with rap.

2. One of the arguments against MTV in the early 1980s was that it focused on visual imagery over the music. Today many people use YouTube as a source to experience music. What are the pros and cons of music married to visual images? Do you prefer one modality over the other (music by itself, or as part of music videos)? Why?
