You will choose a current issue in criminal justice that interests you and write a three (3) page paper about the topic. You will explain the issue – what is it, why is it important, whom does the issue affect and why, what impact does this issue have on our society, what can be done to improve or change this issue. You are required to use three scholarly (3) sources – they must be professional, peer-reviewed journals. Publications such as American Journal of Criminal Justice, American Law Review, Police Quarterly, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology are all excellent resources. People Magazine, Newsweek, Time, CNN, The Washington Post and Cosmopolitan are not acceptable scholarly sources. You may NOT use books, random Internet sites, web blogs, organizational websites, newspapers or other extraneous sources.
Papers should be written in font size 12, Times New Roman, double spaced, and in accordance with American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines.
If you have Microsoft Word, use the search function by simply typing “APA” and the document shell will appear. It will provide a cover page, running head and all formatting – a cover page is required, and does NOT count as one of your three pages. Delete the abstract and table/graph/chart pages. The reference page is required – it is formatted for you; it does NOT count as one of your three pages. You may earn 2 points extra credit if you choose to write an abstract. It does NOT count as one of your three pages.
If you are not familiar with APA, use the website Son of Citation for assistance with formatting or Purdue Owl. Both will guide you through tutorials or format citations for you to copy and paste to meet APA standards. Use proper in-text citations – I will check for plagiarism. When in doubt, cite it!
You will upload your paper to TurnItIn. You must NOT exceed a 20% match. Also, using AI to generate your paper is plagiarism per university academic integrity guidelines. I will upload papers to AI software; if it is more than 10% AI, you will earn a ZERO on the assignment.
