Assessment Details The assessment for the Research Methods involves the submission of a 2,000 words dissertation proposal and outline of plan of work comprising: 1. the research title 2. rationale for research topic 3. proposed methodology 4. provisional chapter headings 5. outline survey of literature 6. plan of work In addition to the above, you must produce a Plan of Work outlining your timetable for the research. What do you propose to do first and why? What is your research strategy? You may want to produce a “spider diagram” of your project to help you plan it. As you collect references, ensure that you keep good notes on your sources so that you can give proper references later. Make a bibliography as you go along and note where you have found each source so that you can find it again easily when you begin work.
As part of your formative assessment, you may be required to give a short oral presentation in class outlining your research proposal and plan of work. You may also submit drafts of your proposal for scrutiny by a member of staff to ensure that your topic is viable and that you have enough resources to progress your initial thoughts to an actual dissertation.
