Should the federal government cancel (completely or partially) student loan debt?

Please note: This is a research-based essay that must
focus on one of the controversial topics below.  In addition, all research
questions / topics MUST integrate at least two quotations from the required
article. Essays that do not incorporate two quotations from the required
article will receive a score of zero (0).

 2.  Do some background research on one of
these topics using a database like Opposing Viewpoints or Issues and
Controversies.

doing additional research on a website like Wikipedia.

keywords and related issues.

5.         Identify
at least one argument for each side of the selected research question (minimum
of two total)

 You will write an essay that adheres to MLA
style and that contains 1) an introduction that includes the background /
context of the controversial topic* and a well-defined thesis statement in
which you clearly state your position on the debatable topic. This research
paper should present a thesis that is specific, manageable, provable, and
contestable—in other words, the thesis should offer a clear position, stand, or
opinion that will be proven with research.   You should analyze and prove
your thesis using examples and quotations from a variety of sources.  2) two
body paragraphs in which you explain in assertive language reasons (two total;
one for each body paragraph) for supporting your position on the controversial
topic; 3) two more body paragraphs in which you explain in neutral language two
reasons for supporting the other side of the controversial topic; 4) a
conclusion in which you consider both sides of the argument and explain your
rationale for supporting one of the two sides (i.e., explain your reason for
supporting one side of the controversial question).

 The essay must be a
minimum of 1700 words, NOT INCLUDING THE WORKS CITED PAGE.  Essays that do
not fulfill the word minimum requirement will receive a score of zero (0).

  1. All
    sources must be over 500 words in length.
  2. Each
    body paragraph must incorporate at least 2 quotations from secondary /
    outside sources. There should be a minimum of 8 quotations integrated from
    the secondary / outside sources.  Essays that do not incorporate two
    quotations from the required article will receive a score of zero (0).
  3. You
    must use MLA format for the document, in-text citations, and Works Cited
    page.
  4. This
    paper will be approximately 1700+ words in length, not including the Works
    Cited page, which is also required.  This means at least 5 full pages
    of text.  The Works Cited page does NOT count towards length
    requirement.

        You must integrate quotations and paraphrases using signal
    phrases and analysis or commentary.

6.      You must sustain your argument, use transitions
effectively, and use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

7.      Your paper must be logically organized and focused.

* Please note: A controversial topic must be relevant
and be debatable (that is, there must
be two legitimate sides to the argument).

 Final Draft (1700+ words / 5-7 pages) – The
essay must be a minimum of 1700 words, NOT INCLUDING THE WORKS CITED
PAGE.  Essays that do not fulfill the word minimum requirement will
receive a score of zero (0).
