For your final project, you will complete an overview of an organ system and its common disease states. Throughout the course, you will complete milestone assignments that are drafts of specific sections of the final project. Because these milestone assignments are a draft of a portion of the final project, you will notice that most of the critical elements and rubric is the same as in the final project.
In your second milestone, you will submit an analysis of the available data on organ system disease. You will explore the available scientific research and create a short presentation. This presentation should connect with your presentation from Milestone One and your final presentation.
Prompt
In this presentation you will analyze the available data of major known chronic and infectious diseases of your chosen organ system. What diseases are most commonly seen in your chosen organ system? Provide current, existing data and research information to support your disease choices. Analyze this data and explain why these diseases are the most commonly seen in this organ system.
Additionally, you will submit an outline of your plans for the third section of the final project on disease treatment and prevention. This outline should include which treatments and preventions you plan on discussing in the final presentation and a brief description of how they fit with your presentation as a whole. The purpose of this outline is to get feedback to be sure you are on the right track for finishing the final project. You can create this outline in one of your slides.
Specifically, address the following critical elements in your presentation:
Using current research, describe the major known chronic and infectious disease states of the organ system.
Describe the effects of the diseases on the organ system’s anatomy and physiology.
Describe the effects of the diseases on the interactions of the organ system with other organ systems and the body as a whole.
Using research data, describe the causes of the diseases. For example, your response may include potential environmental, genetic, or lifestyle risk factors.
Outline the third section of the final project on disease prevention and treatment, identifying the prevention and treatment strategies and briefly describing how each element fits with the whole project.
What to Submit
Your presentation must be 5 to 7 slides in length, not including the cover slide and reference slides, and must include references cited in APA format. Your slides should include the major points you would like to make, while supplemental information should be included in your speaker notes.
