AS Instructions: Every year, the Human Rights Campaign releases a comprehensive report on each U.S. state’s progress or reversal to policies and laws affecting the LGBTQQIA+ community. Review the most recent publication of the State Equality Index (https://www.hrc.org/resources/state-equality-indexLinks to an external site.). For the most current year available, how many pro-equality bills were introduced in state legislatures, how many were signed into law and what were the top three topics that the highest number of laws introduced? How many anti-equality bills were introduced in state legislatures, how many were signed into law, and what were the top three topics that the highest number of laws introduced? Read the report and in the section of “State Scorecards”, click on a U.S. State you know very little about. Indicate what type of advocacy that U.S. state has been assigned (i.e., working towards innovative equality, solidifying equality, building equality, or high priority to achieve basic equality) and what that designation means. How many pro-equality laws have been identified in that U.S. state on parenting laws, hate crimes and criminal justice laws, non-discrimination laws, religious refusal and relationship recognition, youth laws, and health and safety laws. These laws may be distinguished as a blue shaded icon. Include the same for each category identified as anti-equality laws – these may be distinguished as a red shaded icon.
